We at 360 Cities ask you to follow these rules to help keep a happy, ordered, productive forum that we can all use and enjoy.
The biggest strength of online forums, social networking groups or communities is the interaction of the members of the community. It is therefore important that we foster an environment to encourage this interaction since it just doesn’t happen automatically.
Your screen name MUST be your full, real world name, in one of the following formats:
JamieMcDonnell
Jamie_McDonnell
jamie-mcdonnell
Please don't use your nickname or your company name.
This will help us all communicate as a group of real people, and will allow us to get to know one another more personally.
We have to encourage people; we have to make them feel wanted and respected; and we have to provide the answers they seek. The power of individuals to help each other is untapped. In order to encourage our members to participate we must create an environment where they feel respected and free to give answers and ask questions.
Therefore, it is important for all members of 360cities.net to understand that we will strictly enforce the following doctrine.
1. There is no such thing as a stupid question. If something is not clear, just ask. Chances are, someone else has the same question.
2. There is no such thing as a stupid answer. Treat responses with respect and ask for clarification if your question is still not answered.
3. Don't be hesitant about jumping in to help answer questions even if they haven't been directed at you.
We all have differing levels of knowledge, formal education, training, varied languages and cultural values and practices which make us all invaluable members to any community. It is through this diversity that we learn and accumulate knowledge and information.
We will take it very seriously if our members are belittled for asking a question, stating an opinion or providing an answer the goes contrary to the expected response. Everyone must realize that we all have our opinions about everything and the answers, questions or statements provided reflect our beliefs.
There are ways to disagree respectfully. I suggest that if you have differing opinions on any topic, idea, picture or position you state your opposition to that item and refrain for personal attacks. Discourse of an idea or statement can be more aptly accomplished without dragging in personal characteristics - stay focused on the question or statement. Remember you will never find someone who agrees with you 100% of the time.
We also realize that the most active communities are the ones with lively discussions and lively discussions are always triggered by contentious debates. Contentious does not have to be nasty – so by all means please participate in heated debates but remain respectful and leave the personal attacks out of the discussions.
After all given a chance we all want to give our “two cents”.
If these rules are too restrictive for your liking then you are welcome to visit those other forums where anything goes.
If you have any questions about this statement - please email Jeff, Jamie, Steve, or Bruce.
